Since I last left my little corner of the internet we have become homeowners and parents! To say we have had our hands full would be a complete understatement. I wanted to post this yesterday but sickness hit and boy has it been a extremely difficult 36 hours. So we're a day late- but better late than never. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A year (and a day) ago I found out I was pregnant with our sweet little man. I had about seven blog posts saved the day I found out, each one worded different with all the feelings and emotions of my newest discovery. Never posted because I just wasn't sure that I was ready to share something so very personal. But here we are, a year later and man what a year it has been. This little boy is growing so fast that I want to cling to every memory I can and remember every last detail of this precious season we are in. Hence the comeback. I want to share with you our journey through our life mainly for my self and my memory but also for those of you who do life with us, and pray for us daily. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I love hearing stories about how people find out they are pregnant, so here is our story. It was a Monday. I remember the moment so vividly. I had been pretty emotional all week which is so unlike me, but I didn't pay much attention to it. I even caught myself crying during Fixer Upper a few times which is so out of character. Any who- Sam and I were going back and forth that night like every couple does and I was so frustrated I started to cry, real life tears. I never cry. Ask anyone who knows me and unless something is bad wrong- it just doesn't happen. It must have been like the fifth time in one week I had tears streaming down my face and I just knew. I had a gut feeling. I got off the phone with Sam and I immediately ran to the bathroom. I happened to have a pregnancy test from a few months before and I took the test. I waited a few minutes, took a deep breath and checked it. Positive. Y'all I almost fainted. I just knew it was a false positive. I ran next door to my aunts and made her look. She told me to wait and get a digital one and take it again the next morning. Well I did just that. The next morning I took two digital tests, both read pregnant. Then for a week after that I took 8 more. Yep, you read that right. I took a total of 11 tests because I literally just couldn't believe it. We had decided after a few months of trying and no luck that we were going to focus on our house hunting and put having a baby on hold- and as soon as I had made it up in my mind to be okay with putting it on the back burner I get a positive?! God laughs when we make plans. I didn't tell Sam right away and looking back I have no idea how he never noticed but he didn't. I kept the secret for about a week or so until we took our annual Christmas card pictures. It was the hardest week keeping that secret but it was worth it to have those images of Sam's face. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Our lives have changed drastically since that day. Our days revolve around the baby, our conversations are about him, everything we do is literally all for Huck. We are having so much fun being parents and I can't wait to share with you more about him and the past three and a half months we have had with him. Until then- here are a few images of me sharing the news with Sam. I will forever love these pictures. Can't believe its been a whole year! Time sure does fly when you're having fun! </div>

I wanted to reflect on the goals Sam and I set for 2014 and make some new ones for our little family for 2015. The past few months have been extremely crazy for Sam and I in our work lives, and our personal lives. We have been so blessed in 2014 and I know that God has big things planned for us this coming year.<br />
<br />
Hickmans 2014 Goals:<br />
<br />
Pay off my Jetta and buy a new car.-- met! Sam really needed a better vehicle so we decided to give him mine (this was hard for me, I LOVE my jetta) and I got a new car that is amazing on gas since I would be traveling. I love checking things off the list. Sam and I were fortunate enough to come into marriage with no debt, being that we don't have credit cards or anything, so we decided it was a good time to buy!<br />
<br />
Live a healthier lifestyle-- met (for Sam, at least) My husband dropped close to 40 pounds this year. He's looking good!<br />
<br />
Save, Save, Save!-- Happy to say we've done this too. We've been money saving machines lately. This makes me a happy, happy wife.<br />
<br />
That was our goals for this year, we really wanted to focus on being realistic and setting things that we could accomplish together.<br />
<br />
Hickmans 2015 Goals:<br />
<br />
Finalize a more permanent living situation-- Now that my job has opened a second location (Whohoo!) I will be doing a bit of traveling for work. Our goal is to narrow down a responsible location to plant ourselves, which has been put on the back burner for a while. We've got some big decisions to make, but we're excited to make them as a couple.<br />
<br />
Take a vacation! The last vacation we had was our honeymoon (almost) a year ago. This year I would like to go on another nice trip.<br />
<br />
Read our bibles more, as a couple.<br />
<br />
More Saving! We have a goal we want to meet by the end of the summer, I am always up for a challenge!<br />
<br />
Blog more and take more pictures!<br />
<br />
So those are our goals- keeping them realistic and achievable is the key! What are your 2015 goals?<br />
<br />

Sam and I literally have had obligations every night for close to two months, so I soaked up this evening of absolutely no plans the best way possible- eating too many helpings of chicken noodle soup and laying in bed playing Trivia Crack against my far too competitive husband. 2014 was an amazing year, and we hope and pray that 2015 will be even better.<br />

Lets take a short look: </div>

That is a very condensed version of our year. We got to spend lots of time with family and friends, we hosted six showers, celebrated quite the few engagements and pregnancies, witness many of our friends tie the knot, and so much more. We were so incredibly blessed this year and cannot wait for 2015. Stay tuned for 2015 goals! </div>

So if you read my facebook status last night you are well aware of the fact that ALL THREE of my sistas are pregnant. Crazy right?!? I know. I am still a little unable to wrap my head around it. Three beautiful nieces or nephews are blessing our families next May (2) and June (1). We found out on a Friday that Sam's middle brother Brett and his wife Sara was expecting their first child. It is so funny that it happened when it did, I had just told Sam about three days before that I had a feeling Sara was pregnant. I don't know what it was, just a feeling I guess. Or maybe I was just really hoping she was. haha. The very next day, Laura and Will shared their news with us. Talk about excited! I remember coming home and telling Sam, "wouldn't it be something if Jenn was pregnant too?" little did we know- she was! She told us four days later she was. I was bursting to tell her the news about the other two, but obviously it was top secret. Talk about the hardest thing ever to keep in. I literally avoided everyone for a few weeks because I just couldn't hide my excitement. This makes the first for Brett and Sara, number 2 for Will and Laura, and three for Bobby and Jenn. If you lost count, that's a total of six. We are an aunt and uncle to SIX kiddos now. And we are thrilled. I have been dying to write this post and so excited that now I finally can. I cannot wait to love on these babies. <br />

Anyone else? It has been quite the eventful few weeks, since the last time I posted. Lots and lots of incredible things have happened to our little family that I absolutely cannot wait to share, but until I can do so I will catch you up on the things I can talk about. <br />
<br />
Lets start with the fact that Christmas is NEXT month. I officially kicked off our season with the first Christmas gift purchase this week. My favorite part about the holidays is giving gifts to our loved ones, and hoping that they like what I picked out. Last year wasn't our greatest gift giving effort, you know with getting married three days later and all, so this year I am excited to give it my full attention. Being that most of the people that I am buying for read this blog, I won't be sharing all my ideas, but I can't wait to show you. Tackling the holidays for big families is super tough, and we aren't experts at it just yet but for you that are engaged or in serious relationships, I do have some advice for you- establish a game plan before the holidays get near. Once you have made a plan, stick to it. Also, it helps to let your family know the game plan way ahead of time so they can plan for you, or without you accordingly. Now for the Christmas budget, Sam and I have set an overall budget, and then an individual budget for each person and/or couple if they want a together gift. We try to make it even, but I am a competitive shopper and I like to find the lowest price on the items that I want for that person, which gives me a little wiggle room for each person. I also make a list for each and keep track of the exact amount spent for our overall budget. This helps me plan for Christmas each year. I like to try to start in November and be done by the first week or so of December so I beat the traffic. I am hoping it works out that way this year! Now Poor Sam didn't get so lucky when it comes to December. My birthday, Christmas and our anniversary is all in December so we have worked out a game plan as far as gifts go. He does my birthday, and we do each other Christmas gifts. But we set a limit. We have the same budget for each other. This can mean one big gift, or a few small ones. Our Christmas budget for each other is on the smaller side being we both have big families and we would rather save our money for them. We also are both very fortunate to be able to buy what we like/need during the year so we don't make our Christmas gifts that big of a deal. And for our anniversary we have decided to do a nice dinner and exchange cards. Mainly because earlier this year he redid my engagement ring as my anniversary gift, but we liked our arrangement so much that we are going to carry it over as long as possible. Each couple does it differently and what works for us might not work for everyone, but that's just a little inside our holiday game plan. <br />
<br />
Lets move on, shall we? Since we are talking about Christmas I wanted to share with you some of our old and new traditions. Since we started dating we have always done each other a stocking along with our gifts, and I have to say I LOVE this tradition every year. Simple, fun, and cheap. Its always funny to see what Sam thinks I need in my stocking. The first year he gave me pencils and notepads along with some candy and other goodies. The more he gets to know me, the funnier they get. And for a new tradition we are starting- Christmas cards! I have been anxiously waiting to have my very own card with my little family on it and I am stoked that it is almost time for our first one! Wahoo! I hope that we can continue this every year and watch our family grow together. <br />
<br />
And now a little flash back of our first few Christmas's: <br />

I don't know if it is just us- or if it is every newly married couple but this year has been the busiest of my entire life. Crazy, huh? I can honestly say it has been ten times busier than even last year when we were planning our wedding. And I am not sure if it is going to be slowing down anytime soon. A vacation is much need, and definitely in our future. As much as I enjoy blogging, it's usually the last thing I want to do after work, taking care of the pup, and laundry. So I wanted to give you all an update (as if you're really interested) in what us Hickman's have been up to. <br />
<br />
For starters we have both been slammed at work. It has been a good busy though. We've also been busy with weddings, bridal and baby showers, and all kinds of birthday parties in between. It's that stage of life for Sam and I when all our friends have big things happening, so we're constantly on the go. I have to admit- I love it! Our big pup is doing wonderful. Stubborn as all get out- and is taking his precious time adapting to potty training. Ugh. But we love him and we will continue to work at it. He does really well during the night. He's usually asleep by 9:30pm and this month he has started to sleep until 8-8:30am as opposed to his usual 7 am. Which makes me super happy. He eats twice a day still, and loves his kennel. He does really well about not pottying in the kennel- but we're still working on the house training part. He sometimes will bark or go to the door to let us know- so he's learning I suppose. He knows to sit and loves his treats. Baby steps. In addition to Heyward- we've also added a new car in the mix. We made it a goal for 2014 to pay off my car, give it to Sam since it is still in great shape, and get a new one. It was time for Sam to upgrade- and as much as I love my jetta I knew it was finally time. So I passed it to Sam and we got ourselves a new car. I called ahead on the Thursday before we made the trip to Wilmington the next day and spoke with the sales associate. I had everything done and ready for me to come pick something out and sign the papers. I knew I wanted something a little bit bigger than the Jetta for the future kiddos, but nothing too big. (I'm a car girl ALL the way.) So I looked at a few smaller SUV's and narrowed down my search. Gas mileage was a big one for me because even though I work close to home, I am always on the go, so it needed to be decent, we also needed four doors and enough room in the trunk for a stroller (one day, people). We got to the dealership and I test drove the Juke. I loved it immediately. So we signed the papers and were on our way. I was expecting it to be way harder than it actually was! Now we move on to finding a house to call our home. Our goal is to be in one by Christmas of 2015, providing that is God's plan for us. We will continue to take our time searching, praying, and enjoying our time as busy newlyweds until then. <br />
<br />

<br />
Just a few weekends ago we were off celebrating our dearest friends as they are getting ready to tie the knot! NINE DAYS Y'ALL! The girls headed to Charleston and the boys to Charlotte...I think. It was a blast and I can't wait to celebrate them so soon as husband and wife! <br />
<br />

<br />
That pretty much sums up our summer! Sometimes I get to see Sam for dinner, other times we don't meet back up until we're crawling in bed for the night. I am hoping that the holidays will calm our schedules down a bit. Two more weddings to go for 2014. I can't wait. I am also counting down the days until I can bust out my boots. Its not quite cold enough yet! Bring on Fall, Y'all! <br />

Action packed for sure- but oh so fun! Being that I have some time off this evening I wanted to get caught up with my blogging! We had the honor of hosting our sweet friends an "I Do BBQ" shower. Since I am close with the bride, and Sam is close with the groom, it was only fitting that we threw them a party for the both of them. We wanted it to be relaxing, super casual and fun. Not your typical shower with the shower games. Just a time to spend time with their friends. Other than it being ridiculously hot- I think we accomplished just that! Here are some pictures from the shower:<br />

And speaking of big days- this past weekend I got to also see two other of my sweet, sweet friends (almost BRIDES!) I got to help this girl say YES to the dress! One of the many, many reasons I adore my job. I will leave it up to her to share with you all the details. I am so excited for you, Hanna-Lee and so honored I got to be a small part in a big decision for such a wonderful day! You are going to be stunning!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not sure how this weekend is going to top all of that- but oh well. This weekend Sam and I will be boxing up our condo and hopefully moving some things out. Continuing to trust God in this next season of our lives. Also continuing to try and have patience, easier said than done for sure. </div>

Let me preface this by saying this is just MY opinion. I mean it is my blog, I can write about whatever I choose to. With that being said, you are more than welcome to disagree with me, and click the red x in the corner. It will not hurt my feelings. With 50 Shades of Grey coming out, my facebook has been flooded with all things Christian Grey. Some bad, mostly good. Here is the problem I have with the whole dern thing. Is that us as Christians are setting a double standard on this topic. <br />
<br />
I am a lover of all kinds of movies. One of my flaws (gasp, I'm not perfect?!) is that I love a funny movie. If it makes me laugh I am all.about.it. Rated G, PG-13, or R. I understand I need to work on it. As a Christian, walking into The Hangover 3 is NOT a good look for my witness...(that's why I watch it a home....I kid, I kid.) I am fully aware of this. That is why you will not see me condemn anyone for what they read or watch. My timeline is full of people posting that we shouldn't watch this film, but I bet they have no objections to watching a marathon of the Kardashians, or buying the new Beyoncé album. It is honestly no different. SEX sells. Whether it be a movie about it, or its in a song. It is everywhere. No I am not a 50 Shades fan, but no, I am not going to tell you not to watch it. That is between you and the big guy upstairs. It also ticks me off when people say that we shouldn't watch it because we're "Christians".....yeah well there is a lot of things we should and shouldn't do because we're Christians- but I don't see any of yall (myself included) posting about that either. We shouldn't cuss, worry, or get worked up over money because we're Christians but you can bet your bottom dollar I do this on a daily bases. We concern ourselves with telling people what not to do- that we are not sharing with them what needs to be done. As Christians we should be more concerned with praying for Israel than a movie. I don't see anything about that flooding my timeline? My own fault as well. The world is getting worse and worse. There are far more important issues to spread around. <br />
<br />
Another problem I have is that people are saying it is making the women lust after someone that is not their husband. It is making a fictional world in which our husbands will never live up to.....<br />
<br />
Did anyone watch The Notebook?<br />

It has kind of been a crazy month, if we're being honest. I feel like I have been a little behind with the blogging lately- so I am kind of playing catch up. It is full swing wedding/engagement season. Which is so exciting! A little over a week ago we celebrated my dearest friend as she married her love. The wedding was BEAUTIFUL. I had the honor of being her Matron of Honor. Needless to say I was a little emotional all day long. Can't believe my Ellie Pooh is a married woman! She was the most beautiful bride ever. The wedding was romantic, soft and elegant, with a rustic feel. Lights were strung over the dance floor, and tables were placed out on the lawn under the stars. It was fabulous. Here are some pictures from their big day:<br />

On Thursday night we brought our new precious pup home! We were so excited to finally get our hands on our sweet bully. We knew going into this process that it was going to be just that, a process. A long, tiring process. But I am excited to report it is no where near as bad as I was expecting it to be. Little man is so stinking good to be so little. <br />
<br />
On Thursday we got him home at about 8 p.m. He did really well the first night with only two accidents. We took him out at 10 p.m. put him in his kennel, then proceeded to take him out at 12, 3, 5, and again at 7. He slept really well in between breaks. The first night the kennel was not his favorite at all. He would whine for a few minutes before falling asleep. After his 7 am trip- I let him snuggle with me until we got up at 8 for breakfast. <br />
<br />
On Friday Sam and I both had to work so we took him to my parents house. We are trying to keep him on a routine as much as possible. His eating schedule is 8 am, 2 pm, and again at 8. So since we were working we put him in his kennel, and he stayed in there until it was time to eat again at 2. He got to hang out with my dad and Mumble until Sam got home. He played and slept and did really well with only one accident inside and none in the kennel the entire night! He is such a smart dog. Now as for the chewing- I have a feeling something will be destroyed here soon. <br />
<br />
Last night it was Sam's turn for night duty. (I had the first night) We put him in his kennel around 10 and he only whined for about two minutes. Heyward will sleep and then bark just loud enough to wake us up and we take him straight outside. Last night we got a tad bit more time in-between breaks. He took him back out at 1 and again at 3 and then at about 6. We got our morning snuggles in and then it was breakfast time again at 8. Sam has the day off but we still wanted him to get used to the kennel since we work during the day, so we put him back in for just a little bit when I headed off to work. Sam is looking forward to spending the day playing with him and I am so excited to spend the night with him when I get home. <br />
<br />
He is doing so well and we are absolutely in love. He already recognizes when I tell him to come to "mama" and when I tell him to go find his daddy- he starting turning in circles to find Sam. He sure is precious. We take him to the vet next week for his 6 week check up. As for Sam and I? We'll be living off of coffee the next few weeks! <br />

I always think it is fun to occasionally sit back and reflect on what our life is been like lately (other than hectic, of course.) So I wanted to share with you what Sam and I are up to lately! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Currently we are:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Super excited about Heyward joining our family in just a few weeks! We went out Friday night and started shopping for him. Sam refused to let me buy any food or treats until he gets here. Boo. But we did get him his first kennel, a bed, his food and water bowl, his leash and collar number one, and quite a bit of toys. We still have the not so fun stuff to get like shampoo and conditioner, treats and food, cleaner for our floors, etc. But we will finish that up soon. I also ordered his dog tag as well. Who knew that a puppy would be so exciting? I will keep in mind this excitement when I am up at three a.m. taking the little one to the bathroom...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Also super excited about next months festivities! We have July fourth, my cousin Elliott's wedding weekend, and a shower we are throwing for our sweet friends Devin and Haley. It is going to be a busy month but we are looking forward to it! Can't believe both of their weddings are so close! Ekkk! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Doing some serious praying about the next step in our lives. Nothing major, just what our next move is as a family. A lot of things are happening in our lives and we are so blessed to be able to live our lives with each other. We try to cover each decision, big or small, in prayer. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anticipating going to see 22 Jump Street. We absolutely loved the first one. I mean belly laughs. We are hoping that the second one doesn't disappoint. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://static.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/51ce6099e4b0d911b4489b79/52e99a70e4b074062a408213/1391109008631/poster-for-22-jump-street-with-jonah-hill-and-channing-tatum-preview.jpg?format=1000w" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Coming up on six months of sweet marriage! I cannot believe it has already been that long! We're also both coming up on our one year anniversary of working our awesome jobs! Time sure does fly. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img height="640" src="https://scontent-a-atl.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/t1.0-9/1904122_10203110455507462_635361968_n.jpg" width="426" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Loving Hart of Dixie. Okay- maybe "we" aren't, but I am! It gets better and better each season. They wrapped up season three last month so I have been binge watching them all on Netflix and Hulu. I am obsessed. I really also love AnnaBeth's style. Her wardrobe is always flawless. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/236x/f5/6e/e5/f56ee5b1e717c8699a96a7e92079d18c.jpg" /> <img src="http://assets.wornon.tv/uploads/2012/11/annabeths-white-red-blue-green-dress.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Looking forward to an awesome Summer with our family and friends! We are so enjoying the pool, the beach, and the river as often as we can. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Here is one I wrote a few days ago on surviving your wedding day.<br />
<br />
With quite a bit of friends getting married this year, and next, I have been asked many questions about wedding planning do's and don'ts. When it comes down to it, there are a BILLION different websites, books, and blogs telling you what to do on your wedding day. Some of them true, some of them pretty silly. So with that being said I have compiled my own list of tips to surviving your wedding day. Hopefully this will help someone on their big day!<br />
<br />
1. Get PLENTY of sleep. You are going to be exhausted at the end of the day. Don't plan to spend the night before your big day out. You want to be well rested to enjoy your day, call it a night pretty early. <br />
<br />
2. Have a coordinator. I can't stress this enough. I literally have no clue how I would have survived without mine. She kept us on time, on task, and organized the whole day (the whole year, really). Thanks a million, Jami! <br />
<br />
3. Surround yourself with energetic people. My girls kept me upbeat, hydrated, and fed all day long. Every few minutes one would ask me how I was feeling. <br />
<br />
4. Have a buffer. This might seem silly, but it really will help your stress level. The bride doesn't need to know what is wrong, or who is late. The buffer is usually the coordinator. Let them deal with the issues, that is what they are pros at. <br />
<br />
5. Find quite time in your day. I sat down with my bible, and my computer. I enjoyed the calm moments before the festivities started. <br />
<br />
6. Do NOT, I repeat do not try to do anything on your wedding day. Hire people to do it for you, or ask super awesome family members that are willing to help. Wake up, eat breakfast, and get ready. That is ALL you need to be doing that day. You do not want to get overwhelmed. <br />
<br />
7. Ask your friends and family to kindly wait to post pictures until after the ceremony. Of anything wedding related, not just you in your dress. That probably goes without saying, but you never know! <br />
<br />
8. Have a wedding day survival kit ready. You just never know who will need a safety pin, lip gloss, or an old credit card to break into the house that you're getting ready in..hehe. <br />
<br />
9. Be comfortable. You don't want to put your dress on until you are about to head out, so wear something that will be comfortable while you're getting ready. Also- reception shoes are a must. Heels will kill your feet all night long.<br />
<br />
10. Last but not least- leave your phone in your bag. You have everyone you need there with you, use your phone as less as possible. Be in the moment. <br />
<br />
You want to really be present in the day, remember every moment, and enjoy it!<br />
<br />

I have been going nonstop all month and I finally had a little bit of a break this weekend. It has been nice and relaxing! Just what I needed. Lots of big things happening for us Hickman's lately! So excited to share what is happening with us within the next few months. God has blessed us tremendously and we are so grateful. <br />
<br />
One of the big things that have happened this weekend is another one of my sweet friends has drank the koolaid. Super excited to announce that my dear high school friend is getting MARRIED! We are so excited for you, Hanna and Ethan! Marriage is fantastic and so much fun. We chatted that morning about her date (I just had a feeling it was happening) and I told her to call me if anything happened. Sure enough a few hours later- she called! I love getting these texts!! He took her to the top of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and popped the question. (Que the <i>awww</i>'s) I am hoping you'll get to read her engagement story as soon as her blog is up and running.....hint hint.<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Love her last text to me..I mean, why else would anyone climb a ton of stairs of a light house? Not for fun of course! haha jk.</div>
<br />
Also this weekend we met our new furbaby! We don't get to bring him home for a little while, which makes me sad- but we are so excited. We decided not to renew our lease at the place we are staying, which has been the sole reason we haven't been puppy looking already. Our sweet Olde English Bulldog will be ready right after we move so we knew it was perfect timing. I have had my heart set on a bulldog forever and as soon as we found a litter and checked the pick up date we knew it was meant to be! We are over the moon! Pictures to come! Also- for puppy parents, tips would be greatly appreciated!<br />

Busy doesn't even begin to describe our lives lately. After not being home for almost 2 weeks (Newspaper conferences for Sam, Braves weekend trip for Sam, and Katie sitting at our in-laws!) We have somewhat finally settled down into a routine again. Except we're still crazy busy and with lots of wedding festivities, anniversaries and work, I have a feeling its not going to get any slower. But hey, we like it that way. Last weekend we got to spend some time with our sweet friends Devin and Haley. They were thrown a couples shower that we were so excited to attend. Good food, great people and they got some really awesome stuff. They even played the shoe game which was so fun to watch. Oh it brings back so many memories! It was almost a year ago when we played the shoe game at our first couples shower. Where does the time go? I love watching them experience the joy and excitement of being engaged like we did! Anyways- after the shower we headed back to Haley's to spend some more time with everyone. We have been so busy that we haven't been able to see much of anyone so we certainly enjoyed ourselves! <br />

All while my husband became a traveling gypsy this past week, I have become quite the busy MOH for my sweet bff Elliott. Her wedding is less than TWO months away so we have been getting things done. This Sunday is the shower that us bridesmaids are hosting for her. I can't wait to get to shower her with all the things she will start her new married life with! Eeek! And next weekend I am hosting her bachelorette party in Myrtle Beach. I am so excited for a weekend in the sun with some sweet ladies! I have also picked up both of their dresses I will be wearing in their weddings which makes everything so surreal and makes me so anxious for their big days! Ah! Happy times! <br />
<br />
Other than that not too many thing happening in the life of The Hickmans! Busy working and enjoying married life. Tonight we are heading to dinner at our favorite joint, Hamburger Joes's, with our favorite newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Cox! <br />

Before we begin let me preface this by saying if you know me at all, you know I am an avid Jack Roger wearer. Like 99.9% of the time that is what is on my feet. I have bought <em>several</em> pairs and I have enjoyed them all. Until just recently. Last Summer around July, I was in desperate need of a new pair of Gold Jacks. So I order me a pair and loved them, for about a month. I wore them to a football game and when I got home I realized that my heel had come off during the course of the night and it was nowhere to be found. Well, spending a good bit of money on these shoes, I was puzzled at how easily and fast this happened. But because they are my go to shoe, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and emailed the company to see if they could just replace it. Few weeks went by and no reply. So I put them to the back of my closet and forgot about it. Well spring rolled around and I pulled them out again forgetting that they were broke. I contacted the company yet again, finally getting a reply. They pretty much gave me the run around, asking for picture after picture. I got the hint that they were going to tell me it couldn't be fixed even though they were new and was putting no effort in helping me. So needless to say I was a little put off with them. Gasp, I know. I hate bad customer service. <br />
<br />
So I started doing research on the company....my mind was blown and I was a little heart broken. Jack Rogers were not even the original Navajo sandal! There were not patents on shoes, so they copied the original design from Luigi Pucillo, who was asked to create this sandal by Jackie O. If you want to read the entire story in a few quick words you can find it <a href="http://blog.buggydesigns.com/2014/01/jack-rogers-vs-palm-beach-sandals.html">here. </a>Needless to say these were the sandals our beloved Lilly Pulitzer were crazy about- not Jacks. You can also see how they are made <a href="http://pbsandals.com/about/">here. </a>Now obviously I am not stupid, and this could be just another he said she said deal so I did further research of my own about the actual shoe. You can actually SEE the difference in the two. Check out the heels....I bet Palm Beach Sandals heel wouldn't fall off after a month. And even if it did, they come with a warranty to resole your shoes whenever you need it. Finally, good customer service. And for about 10 dollars cheaper on each shoe- why wouldn't you pay for better quality? I will no longer be purchasing Jacks. I statement I never thought I would say. End rant.<br />

We have some of the best, loyal, beautiful friends and family any two people could ask for. My heart was so full last night getting to see some of them. Last night we went out to eat for Sam's birthday at The Boundary House. I had "forgot" to mention that some of his close buddies and Aunt and cousin from Whiteville would be joining us for dinner. When he spotted our table his face lit up. If you know Sam at all you know that his friendships are so special to him. He was so thrilled. We got to eat, share stories about being married, laugh, and cut up with some of his favorite people. He enjoyed every second of it. Thank you to everyone who enjoyed the night with us. We truly appreciate every single one of you. <div>

Its my husbands 27th birthday today! A huge happy birthday to my sweet Sam. I can't believe how fast time really does fly. When I first met Sam he was a scrawny 24 year old. We have been through so much together in such a short period of time. I am so blessed to get to call you my husband. You are the kindest, sweetest (<i>most of the time</i>) and funniest person I know. I know all your friends will agree when I say you are the best friend anyone could have. You always put people before yourself. I love doing life with you. Have the best birthday ever! </div>

Now that our wedding recaps are over I can finally share about life as a wife! Man, that still sounds crazy! I love married life. Albeit, we're still adjusting, but it is so fun. We have finally figured out some sort of routine for Sam and I. With him being a reporter- he doesn't really have a set schedule, unlike myself who knows exactly what is planned for the week. Its more of a guessing game when it comes to if he'll be home for dinner or not- but I think we have managed very well. Usually about 1 o'clock each day I will receive a "I'll be home at 6" text or a "I have something to cover" text. I don't mind his schedule though because I am still working on the cooking part. hehe <br />
<br />
So here is what I've learned so far: <br />
<br />
Married life-Month 3. <br />
<br />
1) Invest in two TV's. This was literally one of the very first things we purchased as a married couple. Now don't get me wrong- I don't mind watching ESPN every now and then with my husband, but every.single.night isn't happening. And I get the "you'll spend too much time apart" look a lot when I say that but I'd MUCH rather spend an hour or so apart than an hour or so fighting and bickering over the remote. It works for us, and we still love each other. So I think we'll survive. <br />
<br />
2) You can always buy new throw pillows. I have to swallow my pride as I type this because I despise when people sit and lay on decorative throw pillows. It gets my blood pumping just thinking about it, but I have learned to let go of this issue and let Sam lay on them whenever he pleases. It just isn't worth the fight. And if he doesn't mind new pillows every few months- I certainly don't mind buying them. :) <br />
<br />
3) You don't really spend much time out as a newlywed. I love going out and hanging with friends but whenever we both have a free night- we just want to be at home. I love it. <br />
<br />
4) I never thought I would get excited about clean dishes or an empty hamper-but I do. I feel so accomplished when these things happen. Its the small things. <br />
<br />
5) I also get equally as excited, if not more, when we receive mail that says "Mr. and Mrs. Hickman" oh it makes my heart so happy.<br />
<br />
6) The Thirty-One large tote bags are a necessity if you live on floor three when carrying groceries. I received a few of these at my monogram shower and I cannot tell you how much easier they make my life- especially when I go grocery shopping while Sam is at work. Newlywed wives that are starting off in condos/apartments invest in you some of those, and thank me later. <br />
<br />
7) No matter how long you've been together-or how well you know each other, married life changes everything. Its just something about both of you putting your hard earned money into one account and watching it get spent on double thick burgers or new shoes that can really test your patience. But trust me, its a beautiful thing knowing that "what's mine is yours" and vice versa. <br />
<br />
8) Tithing is more important than any bills. I stand firm on this. Its why we can afford those thick burgers and new shoes. Married or Single. If you don't believe me, just check it out here: Malachi 3:8-11.<br />
<br />
9) It is so important to spend quality time with your husband-but it is equally important to have your alone time as well. (lets go back to #1, shall we?)<br />
<br />
10. Enjoy one another.<br />
<br />
Obviously I am no marriage expert- this is just what I have learned in three short months. Can't wait to see what God has in store for us Hickman's this year! Bring it on! <br />

What better way to celebrate another month down that to wrap up our wedding with the final recap. I have to say I thought I would be much more sad now that everything is over- but I am really not. I am just so happy to finally be married. I can't wait to see the plans that God has for us unfold! I can't wait to share with you how newlywed life is! So here is the very last wedding post for us Hickmans: The details. This will probably be my favorite post since the details was my favorite part. I am a believer that a wedding should reflect who you are as people, and as a couple. I think our wedding did just that!<br />

We wanted a very bold Christmas theme. We incorporated our candy cane theme into the trees, the mens ties and little boys bow ties, and the flowers, the baseball touches in the candy canes and programs, and of course we had to have some monograms in there somewhere.</div>

We had a lot of fun coming up with the reception decor. Since we didn't serve alcohol- we knew we needed something to fill in the space of "cocktail hour" so keeping with the baseball theme we did a hot dog stand. Apparently it was a hit because they were all out by the time we got there! We also did a s'mores bar and hot apple cider. We did foam fingers for our exit, baseball cookie favors and a braves jersey for our guestbook. We are going to frame it and hang it in our house. </div>

I wasn't fussy about the venue, the center pieces, or anything of that sort. I mean obviously I wanted it to look nice, but we really wanted our guest to enjoy a good meal. We went back and forth with the menu a couple of times, changed it a few more, but I think in the end it was perfect. We picked roasted carved beef, served with au jus and horseradish sauce, BBQ Chicken, collard greens, mac and cheese, a mashed potato bar, and rolls. Sam and I both enjoyed it so much. We mad ourselves sit for a minute and take in our special day. I am so glad we did. I am hoping our guests enjoyed their dinner as much as we did. It was even more delicious knowing that some of our favorite people help prepare our wedding meal for us. (We're looking at you Mom and Jon!) <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" aria-busy="false" aria-describedby="fbPhotosSnowliftCaption" class="spotlight" height="426" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/t1/1908476_10203109988215780_539955513_n.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" aria-busy="false" aria-describedby="fbPhotosSnowliftCaption" class="spotlight" height="426" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/v/t1/1604573_10203109988015775_2059497422_n.jpg?oh=cecc521114ef6197a62712bdca424351&oe=53870FF8&__gda__=1400910858_d61bb69d5c9828425763d291f1e4430f" width="640" /></div>
<br />
Back to the reception- When we first arrived the bridal party and ourselves came in to Crazy Train by Ozzy. We tried to incorporate some Braves elements into our day, and if you're a real braves fan you know that Crazy Train was Chippers walk out song. So it was perfect- and we had fun with it. <br />
<br />
<div align="center">
<img alt="" aria-busy="false" aria-describedby="fbPhotosSnowliftCaption" class="spotlight" height="426" src="https://scontent-b-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/t1/1610034_10203109983095652_1510107637_n.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Once we were introduced we went into our first dance. Sam picked Like Jesus Does by Eric Church. We are both big Church fans, and we loved this song as soon as his CD came out. Sam mentioned that he wanted it to be our first dance song, and I agreed. It was perfect. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" aria-busy="false" aria-describedby="fbPhotosSnowliftCaption" class="spotlight" height="640" src="https://scontent-a-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/t1/1798452_10203109986095727_2127678889_n.jpg" width="426" /></div>
<br />
After dinner then came the Daddy/Daughter dance and the Mother/Son dance. My dad and I decided to dance to Daughters by John Mayer. We both really loved the song even before I got engaged- we are also not very sappy people so it was the perfect amount of sap for us. Sam and his mom decided to dance to the Bee Gees Wedding Day. Those were really special moments that Sam or I will never forget. Then it was on to our toasts. Both of Sam's brothers, my cousin Danette, and friend Blair made our toasts. They were all so special to us. We laughed with them, and even shed a few tears. It was so sweet. <br />

<br />
After the special dances and toasts it was time to cut the cake. Our amazing cake was made by my Aunt Lorie (and her hubby, Uncle Jay!) who is the glue behind Cottage Café and Crumb de la Crumb in Nashville. Seriously, check them out. Our cake design was far better than anything I could have imagined. We picked the flavors Red Velvet and Tennessee Whiskey for our cake. I didn't have an actual piece of my wedding cake until last week- but it was heavenly.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" aria-busy="false" aria-describedby="fbPhotosSnowliftCaption" class="spotlight" height="426" src="https://scontent-b-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/t1/1184788_10203109997936023_238958597_n.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
After cake is was time to party. We had the pleasure of having our family play some music for us. As most of you know, Sams brother, my dad, my brother, and a few of our close friends are in a band called Jaded Mayberry. Well they played, and we had a few guest appearances by my mom, Turner and my uncle Ricky. It was so much fun! We had a blast. <br />

I tossed my bouquet and Sam tossed my garter (to the tomahawk chop, of course) and it was almost time to leave for the night. We had our final dance to Hey Pretty Girl by Kip Moore. As much as we hated to leave, we were so exhausted and we knew it was time to say goodnight. All of family and friends lined up, foam fingers in hand, and as we were taking off they started the tomahawk chop chant. It was the perfect way to end the night. We made so many amazing memories that night and we cannot say thank you enough to everyone who helped make our day so perfect. Stay tuned for our final wedding recap! <br />

Woohoo! I figured today would be the perfect day to kick back up our wedding recaps! <br />
<br />
So here's where we left off:<br />
<br />
After I had my first look with my dad- we quickly made our way to the back of the church so no one would see us. We waited for about 45 minutes, even though it felt like hours. While we were waiting I had some time to reflect, and have a few moments of panic (HA!) the girls were so calm, which made everything so helpful. Before I knew it my dad had made his way back to the back and told me it was almost time. The nerves and excitement was crazy. It was finally here! We all lined up and I could hear the music that I had picked out begin to start.<br />
<br />
Right before the ceremony started, Draw Near by Bethel was played by our dear friend Turner Coleman. The words of this song are so beautiful, I could listen to it on repeat. He played this song so wonderfully. The grandparents and parents were seated to Only Hope by Mandy Moore (also sung by Switchfoot). My aunt Mandy sang it which made it so much more special. Only Hope was from A Walk to Remember- which is one of my favorite movies. When Sam and I first started dating I made him watch the whole thing with me, and despite what he tells people he really liked it. I knew that it had to be sung at our wedding.<br />
<br />
Then it was time for the wedding party. I decided that I wanted everyone to come out to one song, I just wanted to come out to the build. <i>'cause I'm dramatic like that. </i>I chose Closer by Bethel. My other aunt Lorie sang this one for us, which was fabulous. The first time I ever heard this song I was getting ready for class. It came on and I immediately began to cry. I am not sure if it was the words, or the anointing that it had over it, but I was in the floor sobbing. It was so powerful. I just remember thanking my Lord for all of the things he has blessed us with, and asking him to prepare my heart for what to come. I knew as soon as I heard it that I would be coming down the aisle to that with my earthly father. So special. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img height="426" src="https://scontent-b-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/t1/1891143_10203109855212455_1304275402_n.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
After what seemed like the longest walk ever, I had reached my groom. The first thing Sam mouthed to me once I could see him was "You came?!?" What a goofball. Then my daddy lifted my veil, kissed my cheek and handed me to Sam. I was so excited at this point. We wanted a short and sweet ceremony so I knew that I was almost Sams wife. My grandfather officiated the wedding, which helped me relax a little. Sam and I recited the vows that we wrote for each other (his being written on his reporters notebook...haha!) Such sweet and special words I will treasure forever. After our vows we did communion with each sets of our parents as Sam's oldest brother sang My Beloved by Tenth Avenue North. I love this song and I knew it was perfect for communion! Having Will singing was also so special. We really felt so loved by all our family and friends that day. We exchanged our rings and he kissed the bride! We did it! We were officially man and wife- and it was fabulous! We danced our way back down the aisle to Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen. Sam fell in love with this song at his brother, Brett's wedding and has been somewhat obsessed with it since. We knew it was perfect. We spent so much time picking music, and making everything about our ceremony reflect our relationship with each other, and our relationship with our savior.<br />

Our wedding day was perfect to us. It was everything we could have ever dreamed of. I woke up that morning at 6:30, probably from the excitement. My mom had put together some food for the girls for throughout the day, but I still needed to pick some stuff up to have where we were getting ready. So I gathered all my things, finished packing for the honeymoon, and loaded up the car. I'd like to think I was pretty calm that day, but I'm sure I wasn't as calm as I thought I was. I arrived at the house and my bridesmaids started arriving. Its hard to express in words the emotions you feel that day unless you've experienced it. Months and months of planning and it is finally here. I wanted everything to go so perfectly, just like I had planned, but in that same moment there was a peace that if nothing went right it was okay too. That morning I got to have a few moments in the word which really brought comfort over me. I also had such a great group of girls around me all day. I wanted that morning to be peaceful, relaxing and as stress free as a wedding day morning could be. I just wanted to be with my girls all morning and not have to worry about a thing. I can't speak for the girls, but I enjoyed it. At one point we even had a dance party in the midst of getting ready. It was great fun.<br />

<br />
After the girls got ready my mom helped me get in my dress and then we decided to have some prayer time. I will have to say that I will never forget those moments. Each one of my bridesmaids said a little something as they continued praying over Sam and I and our marriage. At one point we were all in tears at the same time. The most special memories to me. After we had our moment of prayer I got to read the letter that my sweet husband sent over to me. We decided not to see each other before the wedding, so this gave us a little time to hear from each other and calm our nerves before the ceremony.<br />

Before I knew it, it was 4:30 and it was time to make our way over to the church. We decided to have our ceremony in the church that my mother, both of her sisters, and the rest of the family all got married in. It is also my home church, and the church my grandparents pastor together, so it was very special to me. The girls and I got ready at the cutest little house right in front of the church, which made the travel easy!<br />

As I was walking up, I met my dad in front of the doors. I decided to do a first look with my dad since he had not seen me in my dress. This was also a special moment. I have always been a daddy's girl so this was something that I will never forget.<br />

Today is my sweet, sweet niece's very first birthday. I can't believe it has already been a year! It has flown by so fast- it's almost sad. She has literally changed our lives. She has brought so much joy into our family. She will never know how much she is truly loved. I have the privilege of keeping Lillian every Monday. I have watched her grow, crawl, learn to walk, and now she is a talking machine. She says "Papa" for Poppy, "Luu" for Lulu, "bye bye", "bumble" for Mumble, "Pretty', "Whats that?" "Bath tub" and sometimes when she gets feisty she screams "David" to get my dads attention...pretty sure she learned that from my mom. We're working on Gigi...its coming, I just know it. I am so blessed to get to be this little one's aunt. Happy Birthday my sweet Lilly Bug, we love you very much!<br />

We had the best time. We traveled to Cocoa Beach, Florida the day after we got married. We were so exhausted from all the wedding festivities that when we woke up the next morning we almost didn't leave! We finally packed up and headed out. Note to all future brides: you are going to be EXHAUSTED on your honeymoon. Months and months of non-stop planning finally catches up to you and literally all we did was sleep!<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
We knew that we wanted to get out just a little bit on our trip- but we didn't want to plan too much because we wanted to relax. We did just that. Our goal on our trip was to try as many local eateries as we could while we were there. I think we were pretty successful. We did get to go to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure while we were there. It was SO much fun. We bought the express passes and literally walked right on to every ride. Totally worth the extra money. We ate lunch at the Circus McGurcus Cafe, which was fantastic. I LOVE Dr. Seuss land- so I was thrilled! The rest of the trip was spent eating, exploring the beach, shopping and sleeping! We had the honeymoon of our dreams! </div>
